Welcome Welcome to my blog! I love to take pictures, which is why I started my natural light portrait studio, Lynette Shavel Photography . Of course, I like to shoot all sorts of things, so this blog allows me to post whatever I find interesting. Clients might find a few sneak peek photos posted, but I'm just as likely to post vacation pictures or scenic shots of the surrounding Bucks County countryside. Check back often for new posts.

I wonder if anyone still uses the term "bread and butter" corn anymore, but that's what we had tonight. Peaches, tomatoes, corn ... this is the best time of year for fresh produce. I definitely get my 5 servings a day in August.

I don't think we have missed the Middletown Grange Fair in the 15 years we have lived in Bucks County. The minute I smell the funnel cakes and chicken barbecue, I'm transported back to the childhood me at the Big Knob Fair outside of Pittsburgh. Of course, when you are a kid everything seems just so much bigger and brighter, but the attraction that I retain the most visual detail about is the tiny chapel. Some church group would bring in a tiny little church replica, complete with a few pews on the inside. It seemed like such a little island of sanctity in the otherwise loud and raucous fairgrounds.

Georgetown has a mule barge that still operates on the canal near the downtown area. Of course, it is for sightseeing tourists now. I didn't have my camera as the barge was taking off, but I was totally amazed to see a solo woman grab a rope, lean into it, and singlehandedly pull the entire barge down the canal about 30 yards to where the mules were waiting. It was about 97 degrees out, and she was dressed in colonial garb. Interestingly, a man was on the barge as the driver, just waiting for the mules to be attached.

We spent a few days in Washington, and found Shaq's shoe in the National Archives. Seems like an odd addition to the National Archives, but there was a special "Big" exhibit going on. Josh decided to compare his size 11 shoe to the size 22 (16" long) Reebok sneaker. While Josh has a ways to go before he would fill Shaq's shoes, he is only 11 years old and wearing a size 11. We may be special ordering sneakers in a few years.

This farm is somewhere near Ottsville, PA. We picked Rachel up from Camp Onas, and passed this on the way back. Those adirondack chairs could well be one of my visual "happy places." Imagine a beautiful fall evening, a glass of merlot, a small fire, and nothing but the sound of crickets.
